The Promises I Make To My Boys

July 31, 2014 By Eileen Carter-Campos

I am a MommyTeacher so I take what I say as a mom and what I teach very seriously. I NEVER make a promise I can’t keep – it’s one of my BIGGEST pet peeves. I wouldn’t want someone to make a promise to me and NOT keep it so I have NEVER done this to my own children. When I promise them something, I follow through and I follow through hard (as we say in New York).

I don’t think I have really had to promise to follow through on my promises to my children because I display it in my actions and the things I say everyday. When I first became a mother on February 1, 2004, I promised my son that I would be the very best mom I could be. I knew I would make mistakes because no one is perfect, but I would try my hardest and do my best every day. I promise this same thing to my boys every night before they go to bed and I ask, “Has Mami done right by you today?”…”Did I fulfill my promise of being the very best Mami?” Just as I make that I keep that promise to them, JOHNSON’S® Baby also makes promises so we moms don’t have to worry about the products that we use and trust for our little ones.

Not a moment goes by that I don’t tell my children how much I love them and also how much they were wanted in this world. They will be loved eternally and even when I part from this earth, my love will be present in the memories that we have so beautifully created. It gives me great peace of mind that JOHNSON’S listens to moms the way we want our children to listen to us, and they BELIEVE IN our word. They took a firm stand and changed their formulas to give moms what we want for our babies, giving us a sense of safety and peace of mind.

Making promises to our children (or to anyone, really) should NOT be taken lightly. When you look into my eyes and tell me you’re going to do something, guess what? I believe you. I am a woman of my word and I want to be that promise for my children. It’s the same way I want a product like JOHNSON’S to give me their word… and they have! They have created an inspiring story, “Our Promise” video, which can be viewed on YouTube and below as well. A beautiful open letter to moms showing us their scientists and their families bonding together to build an origami stork mobile. It’s a touching symbol of the delivery of their promise to ALWAYS listen to moms.

My ultimate promise to my children since conception was to always put them first. My life is no longer all about me and what I want. If our schedules conflict and they really want me to support them in something, you better believe I drop everything just for them. I have missed out on great opportunities because I have chosen to put them first. No one and nothing comes before their needs and wants in my world. It’s a promise that I have made to them and I have fulfilled over the years just as JOHNSON’S® has done with their own labor of love. The video that was created was inspired by a Japanese legend that says folding 1,000 origami cranes will result in a wish granted and a promise fulfilled. Kind of like the promises that moms make to their children! The act of JOHNSON’S® changing their products was an act of love for moms and our precious gems and I love the way they used storks as a symbol to represent the delivery of babies with the hopes and promises of families embedded in them.

I know my MommyTeaches readers have made promises to their little ones just as I have. Go on over and watch this beautiful JOHNSON’S video and share it with your friends. Let’s continue to make promises to our own beautiful creations and let’s keep them by choosing a brand like JOHNSON’S who has made a promise to us as well!

[…] My boys loved the meet and greet before the show as well. They participated in great age appropriate activities and were able to meet with some of the cast members. They were all so polite and friendly with our children. The boys were so excited about the show that they wanted to take home some souvenirs to have as a keepsake. I too was excited and flooded my twitter stream, Instagram and Facebook with all of the goodness that this show has to offer. […]

[…] My boys have always been very active. My youngest began walking at 9 months. Yes, 9 months! Growing up myself, I was in all sorts of sports: I was a catcher while my sister pitched in softball, I was a Cheerleader (booster) in high school and I’ve walked all my life – my calves are living proof of it! There was no doubt that our boys would be active with a Mami like me, and we totally embrace all of their movement by taking part in activity with them! […]
