My Son’s Best Year Yet With ClassDojo

January 2, 2015 By Eileen Carter-Campos

Sadly, this is my son’s last year in his elementary school but happily, it’s been one of his best! The school has been under new administration for a year now and I saw such a difference right from the start! Communication has been a top priority for this administrator since his very first day at our school. It’s evident that he wants his staff and parents to have a connection. He wanted them all to engage in the progress and even tackle the tiniest bit of concern for every child. Our fifth grade teacher is doing just that with ClassDojo and I couldn’t be happier!

I mentioned that this has been my son’s best year. I honestly believe this is partly because he has great teachers who give a damn but also because ClassDojo is an added bonus. I have NOT been paid to say this but I like it that much that I needed to share this bit of goodness with my readers. Hopefully, sharing this will motivate you to bring it to your child’s teacher or an administrator at your school and have a conversation about them having it in their classrooms. It might not be for everyone, but there is no harm in creating a conversation with the intention to bridge the gap, supporting parents to be more actively engaged in their child’s education.

For myself, ClassDojo works perfect as a working mom and one who is always locked into Social Media. The app is downloaded onto my iPhone and I know that my son’s teachers can contact me at any time for anything they feel necessary. His behavior is made known to me (and him) on a daily basis whether it be negative or positive and he knows it. What I love most about this communication tool is that there are NO surprises after the school day and I know exactly how his day went.

photo.PNG-126Data is shared and I don’t have to wait for Parent Teacher Conferences or a phone call to fill me in on any drama there might be. I have real life line right before me through my phone so I know what’s happening. I also feel that having this communication with the teachers allows us to have a relationship that we wouldn’t have otherwise. I don’t know about you but to me, it’s important for parents and teachers to have a good rapport. As a teacher myself, I think it’s important we communicate and get to know one another. Teachers are a main influence on their students’ lives for the year and we need to understand one another and be on the same page to support success.

If you are a parent like myself that really needs to know what takes place with your child in the classroom, I would definitely mention ClassDojo to your child’s school, administrator, or teacher. It’s a PHENOMENAL tool to connect parents, teachers and children together as one. I have seen such a difference with my son and his progress in large part due to our awesome communication this year.

Let’s share: Have you heard of ClassDojo and what do you like or dislike most about it?
Would you like for your child’s teacher to use this in their classroom?
