Being Proactive Against Breast Cancer

November 13, 2015 By Eileen Carter-Campos

I distinctly remember the day when my mother walked in and shared that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and that she would have to undergo a mastectomy. My response, “We love you with one breast or none. As long as we have you here.” I meant it when said it, but I knew she was scared. Who doesn’t fear that breast cancer diagnosis? Who doesn’t fear any diagnosis? I went through a time in my life where I feared every type of cancer but I knew that I couldn’t allow it to take hold of my life. Breasts don’t make up who I am!

Although last month was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it’s something that you will always keep in the back of your mind if you have someone who has lost their life to cancer. The best way to beat cancer is to be proactive as I have become. Don’t sit and wait until something happens but do your research, go to the doctor and get your exams, ask questions, look into your family history and be proactive!

For women, our breasts are a highly personal and sensual part of our bodies, I get it. It’s more important for me to be able to see another day with my children and my husband and for myself. This is why I do what I do and I take that active role. I am NOT here to preach to you, nor am I a doctor, but I am someone who cares! I am someone who hates to hear that a person hasn’t gone to the doctor because they didn’t have health insurance or felt that, “It can’t happen to me.” Cancer has no age, gender or religion… it can happen to anyone. After reading this post, I urge you to call your doctor or find one like the Breast augmentation surgeon in Boston, MA to counsel about different practices to maintain healthy breasts. Make an appointment to get your check up and rule out any aches and pains, lumps and bumps you might have that you have been ruling out with an, “it’s nothing!” As we get older, we need to practice better self-care and love ourselves a little bit more than yesterday! My breasts don’t make up who I am, but my health does. It determines if I will see another sunrise, sunset or the smiles on the faces of my boys. That means more than anything in this world to me. You owe it to yourself to get checked and beat cancer or any disease that may be coming your way! Go and please report back!
